Annie goes boom
Posted by boomerang on May, 16. :: 3 Comments
My neighbor "Annie" (I call her that because she reminds me of Texas' Ann Richards) fell down the other day.
Annie was led to believe she had a brain tumor.
Annie went through a lot of tests. A LOT of tests.
Annie has an ear infection, it turns out. (Thank goodness. I LOVE Annie.)
Annie went boom because the infection messed up her balance.
Annie is mid 60s (maybe older, if not, forgive me Annie) and a very wealthy widow.
I think Annie's doctors said "brain tumor" because Annie had good insurance and much money and that pisses me off because I like to believe the best about doctors.
So.
Is it better to be so cautious or is it better to be a suspected ear infection?
(I hope this makes sense.)
Thanks!

Pine Trees - bubbling during a rainstorm
Posted by mismi on May, 15. :: 15 Comments
I just opened the front door to let Levi Kitty in and noticed something white coming down the sides of the pine trees.
It was not there yesterday and we are having a nice rain today...well torrential rains today. I have never seen it before. It is like the trees are frothing - only the pine trees though...
Anyone ever seen anything like this? Know what it is?

How do you find a reputable source of foreclosures to buy?
Posted by kickycan on May, 13. :: 15 Comments
I see about a million websites that promise you super deals on foreclosures, but who the hell knows which ones are reputable and which are bullshit? Does anyone know how one goes about seriously looking for foreclosures? Is online even worth a try? Is it better to go to a realtor? What does one do when one is looking for a deal on a foreclosure, but doesn't want to get ripped off?

Haunted with fear..obsession
Posted by navigator on May, 11. :: 3 Comments
Hi everybody, here is the story,
My brother in law who is nearly 20 now has the problem. He wasn't that
clever at school, so he decided to join the army. That was ofcourse after
finishing high scool. What I knew about him that he has one close friend (
neighbour). What he usually does in his life ( during school time ) coming
back home, going for a football, hanging with his only friend, That's it.
The boy had to join the army ( he like that, and he is strong and healthy),
he doesn't have any problems regarding their drills or tasks. But, in his
first days at the army has this feeling maybe fear mixed with obsessin.
He wants to go home , miss being at home very much that he cries. We
had a hard time being with him, talk with him about being patient, looking
to his futur and career. Despite every attempt from everyone around
hime, nothing new. His parents even visited him their many time. We
took to phsychiatrist ( shrink ) , but nothing change.
After those terrible days and night, and after finishing the training time at
the army and settling in his new job, boy came normal. Every fear and
obsession gone, and everyone was happy that he is back.
Recently, his uncle died and he wached the corpse actually. Now, my wife
talked to me last night tha the same old problem came back to her
brother, a long with nightmares.
The boy is embarrassed to talk about his problem renewal . He only
spoke to my wife, and asked her to talk to me.
I don't know what to do .
Anybody with any thoughts, or ideas, Thanks.

Hurt Girls
Posted by sozobe on May, 11. :: 14 Comments
I keep reading things about this (general injury rate in kid's sports, specific injury rate for girls) and worrying.
Sozlet's in soccer and loves it. She's quite good -- not great, maybe 5th in skill level on a team of 14. She's definitely one of the kids who gets it (when she's in the mood, anyway, and she isn't always) -- she's strong and fast and is one of the few kids at her level who purposely passes to open teammates (who have subsequently scored goals, a few times).
I want her to continue as long as she'd like. But this is scary stuff.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/11/magazine/11Girls-t.html
Things I take away from the article:
1.) Allow sports, but limit sports. None of this regular league plus club league and traveling for tournaments stuff.
2.) Encourage diversification. A lot of what I see in this article and others is that the specific sports team becomes the kid's life. All of her friends are there, she has nothing to fall back on. That feeds into the need for getting over the injury and getting back into the group.
3.) Encourage toughness, with limits. A few years of glory in HS is not worth a lifetime of crippled knees.
4.) Encourage PLAY, not just sports. This is less from this article than from other things I've read. That increasing focus on organized sports creates repetitive motion injuries and less overall fitness than just plain playing, like a kid. I think this has something to do with the "like a boy" stuff in the article, too. I think boys are more likely to just go outside and run around and be goofy than girls are.
5.) Look into the PEP training. Sounds like it might be promising, and that now is about the time to start. Sozlet does have that "athletic stance" or whatever it's called -- knees bent, butt low.
Overall, scary stuff.
Your thoughts?
