| My grandfathers cameras |
Posted by shewolfnm on May, 12. :: 32 Comments
My mom and my uncle cleaned out several boxes of things that have been in the family for.. 60 (?) years? Maybe less in some cases.
I get the wonderful cameras.
I have had them for a few months now.. and with very little luck , I have vaguely identified a couple but not all
After I identify them, I want to use them
Im sure these cameras are not extremely old, and most are .. at least what I can find.. for sale for under a hundred bucks or so..
But I am curious about their photo quality and if anyone knows anything about them?
No. I do not expect crisp shart, digital quality photos from them
In fact I am looking for gritty if that makes sense
I also have a working keystone video camera with manual still in its original box that I want to pull out and try as well..

| IDENTIFY SOME WRITING TRICKS |
Posted by farmerman on April, 25. :: 26 Comments
I do A LOT of technical writing and am alaways finding new tricks that have helped me in generating my pagecount, keeping up the flow even when I take a 2 day break, or the best way to utilize resources . I want to see if there are any tricks we can compile herein to make our writing better and concise.
Ive gotten these tips to share from noted writers , some I know and some Ive heard on tv
WHEN TO START WRITING RESEARCH. David Mcullough Stated that he writes when hes gotten only about 30% of his research in. He feels that his writing will tell him what other knowledge he needs to get hold of
KEEPING UP THE FLOW. Mark Bowden said that, when he quits writing for the day, he stops in the middle of a sentence. This was a trick he learned at loyola . He said it keeps his subject fresh
INTEREST- John Rodgers ( A geologist teacher) always said to write like youre writing to a lawyer. Dont clutter your work with so many facts that the subject gets lost and the point gets buried in the "telephone numbers" of the characters.
Stephen King said he usually writes from the end and works backwards.
The USGS has a 350 page "style manual" that is mostly garbage. Its a manual that assures that the fledgling techy writer will have his work rejected .
Anybody have any tips tricks or help to offer? Im taking a long break from a major research paper and Ive quit right in the middle of a sentence in the middle of a paragraph. That is so....

Imagine if you will....
"Howard" and "Monica"* have been married a while, they have a couple of tweenagers, a dog, a house in the suburbs. By all accounts life is good.
One day Howard calls and says he has to work late. He has a great job but this sometimes happens.
Monica and the kids go about their evening when the phone rings.
Monica notes from the caller ID that the call is coming from Howards cell phone. She answers. She hears her husband having sex with some other girl.
It seems that working late actually meant going to a bar, meeting some girl, getting passionately intertwined with her in the backseat of a car and accidentally hitting "redial" on his pocketed cell phone.
Imagine the next 2 to 24 hours will unfold. Write a little story for us all to enjoy.
*Not their real names and certainly not me and Mr. B in disguise.

i like westerns.
hope to read some stuff here from other a2kers
anything on that theme -story, song, poem, whatever comes along
here's a contribution : )
The Killer
so he lined em all up
and he shot em all down
and they never made a sound
when they hit the hunting ground
and he dug em all graves
and he buried em with crosses
then he up and rode to town
for to sell him all their horses
then he brought a fine new hat
and a gold watch on a chain
and he found a local bar
where he bought into a game
The poker stakes were high
but he couldn't stop winning
he drank a lot of rye
and he f'cked a lot of women
then a banker came to town
and he had a pretty wife
his name was Pete McCann
and he lived the simple life
the killer paid a visit
and he stole some secret kisses
then he robbed the bank
killed McCann
and rode off with his missus
