Can anyone identify these spiders?
Posted by TTH on May, 16. :: 0 Comments
Sorry about the picture quality, the spiders kept moving. I live in Western WA State. Spider #1 is the type that bit my dog and my dog just about died from it. All the cats I ever owned always ran the opposite direction of this spider. The cats would kill other spiders, not this one though. I can't tell if they are both the same type of spider. I do know that spider #1 is a funnel spider.

Pine Trees - bubbling during a rainstorm
Posted by mismi on May, 15. :: 15 Comments
I just opened the front door to let Levi Kitty in and noticed something white coming down the sides of the pine trees.

It was not there yesterday and we are having a nice rain today...well torrential rains today. I have never seen it before. It is like the trees are frothing - only the pine trees though...

Anyone ever seen anything like this? Know what it is?

Why are horses killed when they break or injure their leg?
Posted by Linkat on May, 14. :: 24 Comments
I always wondered about this. People and most animals that break a limb simply end up getting them put in a cast or repaired in some way. Why do you kill a horse that breaks its leg? Why not try to repair it?

Here is a pony that was given a fake leg.

hard pan

Anyone know of a way to break up hardpan?
I have a small garden area under my kitchen window that I would like to landscape myself, but I am not able to dig deep enough to even put plants in.
I have put in some Kellogg's Amend, but that takes some time to see the effects of that.
I'm looking for something that can work quickly (if there is such a thing) so that I can get some plants out there.
Thanks for the help!

Pot Gardening

No - not that...

IN POTS.

Since I don't have a huge place of my own where I could get some great and wonderful garden going I generally plant items in pots for around the patio.

Even my lovely tomatoes. Nothing says summer like a garden fresh tomato. Must get going on tomato plants here shortly!

I've also done peppers and all kinds of flowers in pots.

How about you?
