The Spirituality & Religion Forum :: Ask us a Question!

Spirituality & Religion :: Each of us has our personal concept of our relationship to ourselves, each other, the rest of the world, and the entire universe. Some folks are guided by one or another organized religion, or spiritual movement, with their own particular "cast of characters". Others are not sure of the existence of God, and take a "wait and see" attitude. A third group rejects entirely the entire concept of a supreme being.

The Religion & Spirituality Forum discusses our varying concepts of the subject. This Forum is designed to share ideas and questions surrounding the ultimate mysteries, in an intelligent, non-judgmental fashion.

The Spirituality and Religion Forum is not the place for proselytizing. It is not the place to attack others for their most personally held beliefs. Quotations of religious text to illustrate salient points in discussions is perfectly acceptable. Using religious text AS argument cannot be considered intellectual discussion, but merely plagiarism. The Religion and Spirituality Forum is the place to share ideas, and learn from one another. Ask us a Question!

PRAYERS FOR LOVED ONES.
Posted by Luv4AL hatred4non on May, 15. :: 1 Comment
Peace be upon you!

According to my believe, God has granted to mankind the instrument of prayer without which the human is not in a position to use fully his or her capabilities. To me, to get prayer answered, one believe God is All Powerful. To live in harmony and to see peace in families, prayers is the way. We need to remember our loved ones in our prayers.
Following are prayers for dear ones from holy Quran
( general info: w.alislam.org/quran/ ) :

Prayer for parents:
==============
My Lord, have mercy on them as they nurtured me in (my) childhood. [part of verse25: chapter 17]

Prayer for spouses and children:
=========================
Our Lord, grant us of our spouses and children the delight of (our) eyes, and make us a model for the righteous. [part of verse 75: chapter 25]

Thanks.

Vatican says aliens could exist
By David Willey
BBC News, Rome

The Pope's chief astronomer says that life on Mars cannot be ruled out.

Writing in the Vatican newspaper, the astronomer, Father Gabriel Funes, said intelligent beings created by God could exist in outer space.

Father Funes, director of the Vatican Observatory near Rome, is a respected scientist who collaborates with universities around the world.

The search for forms of extraterrestrial life, he says, does not contradict belief in God.

The official Vatican newspaper headlines his article 'Aliens Are My Brother'.

'Free from sin'

Just as there are multiple forms of life on earth, so there could exist intelligent beings in outer space created by God. And some aliens could even be free from original sin, he speculates.
Asked about the Catholic Church's condemnation four centuries ago of the Italian inventor of the telescope, Galileo, Father Funes diplomatically says mistakes were made, but it is time to turn the page and look towards the future.

Science and religion need each other, and many astronomers believe in God, he assures readers.

To strengthen its scientific credentials, the Vatican is organising a conference next year to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of the author of the Origin of Species, Charles Darwin.

Einstein: Nothing 'chosen' about the Jews, Bible 'childish' legends

Albert Einstein, writing in 1954, dismissed Judaism and other religions as "an incarnation of the most childish superstitions," though he said he gladly belonged to the Jewish people and felt a deep affinity for the Jews' "mentality," excerpts published on Tuesday showed.

Einstein also said he saw nothing "chosen" about the Jews, and that they were no better than other peoples "although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power."

The renowned physicist, who died a little more than a year after writing the letter, also had tough words for God and the Bible, according to the text published by the British The Guardian daily.

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish," the letter was quoted as saying. "No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this."

The letter, written in German in January, 1954 to philosopher Eric Gutkind, is to be auctioned in London on Thursday, the paper said. Written in Einstein's hand, the letter, which has been in private hands for more than half a century, reportedly could sell for as much as 8,000 pounds sterling.

Turning to Judaism, Einstein wrote that "For me the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people.

"As far as my experience goes, they are also no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them."

If Jesus......

.........came to the good old USA today, how long would he last? I believe he would last about 3 seconds before he gets arrested and deported back to the middle east for having outrageous anti-government and anti-establishment ideas. (Of course after being tortured and interned for several years in cuba without trial or evidence.), but it would still take 400 years before someone to compile a book on his deeds which by then would become magical and mysterious, instead of flying in on a chartered flight he will fly in on his magic cross and then save everyone in his prison block. God knows what would happen if he or a reborn mohammed (Be)headed to Iran to spread their word....
