The Sports & Fitness Forum :: Ask us a Question!

Sports & Fitness :: Will doing crunches really tighten your upper abs? Who was the greatest baseball player, ever? Anybody know a good health club that offers Palates? Whom do you think will win the Heisman Trophy this year?

If your "thing" is sports, and/or fitness, the Sports and Fitness Forum is definitely for you. People here can share sports stories, discuss the relative merits of different teams, players, managers, and argue about which home town team is best. People can share experiences with playing sports, such as "How I knocked 5 points off my golf score". Is there a sports event that you just want to talk about? Do you want to create a poll about who is going to win the Super Bowl? Do it here.

The Sports and Fitness Forum is also a place to get information about building and maintaining a well toned body. Any subject on these topics, including discussions about health clubs, aerobics, weight lifting and exercise, are fair game for this Forum.

So sit awhile, pass the peanuts, and we'll tell you what we really  thought about what happened at last night's game! Ask us a Question!

Prilosec, Omeprazol, Protonix and weight gain
Posted by Johnmg on May, 15. :: 4 Comments
I have been taking prescription drugs for my severe acid reflux for about 4 years now. I has caused me to gain around 30 pounds that i cannot lose. I lift, bike, and play basketball at the local ymca almost every day, i cut back on my food intake and cut any carbonated drinks and pop completely out of my diet and still cannot lose any weight. I would stop taking the acid reflux medicine but i simply cannot live without it. I have acid reflux non stop from the moment i stop taking it until i take it again. Any one else have this problem??

Base Ball Sucks
Posted by Johnmg on May, 09. :: 33 Comments
Base ball sucks, first off there isnt enough action, its like watching golf, ya its a game of precision throwing and hitting the ball, but theres too much standing around. Base ball fans say that well basketball is just dumb, back and forth back and forth and only the last minute matters when somebody shoots to win. This only happens when both teams play equaly well to stay in the game with eachother, and in that case wouldnt it be much more fun to watch, a close neck and neck finish. Basketball is constant action and creativity. Who would rather watch a man wait on a base for another guy to throw a ball at him, than Vince Carter Jumping over a 7 foot 3 inch man from germany and stuffing the ball down the hoop like the guy killed his family or something. Every time down the court there is a cool play, amazing shot or pass or dunk. Its constant action and fun. No one can sit here and say that sitting watching a base ball game go 14 innings and 7 hours of standing around than a neck and neck play off game between the two bests teams in the league to win the championship, you cant argue with that!!

KOBE BRYANT IS THE MVP FOR 2008

Finally! I'm amazed that this is only the first time he's won it. The guy is the best player in the league, and has been for years.

Amazing.

Buying bike helmets
Posted by SallyMander on May, 07. :: 20 Comments
Hi!

I need a new bike helmet and I want a good one. Good is not a price but maximum safety, ventilation, fit, and somewhere in between a "look." I spent at least an hour trying on helmets today. My questions:

1. Except for the obvious (one's for mountain biking; one's for commuting), what's the structural and functional difference between mountain bike helmets and regular city and road biking helmets? I liked the Giro Hex and now I find it's a mountain bike helmet when I'm a commuter. Confused So what's the diff? Maybe I shouldn't get it if I don't mountain bike.

2. Why are the straps so chintzy on bike helmets? Little ribbon things. My ribbons started losing their chintzy plastic hardware, which started me on the new helmet search. Is there a brand with good strap things?

3. Now they tell me my 10-year-old helmet's foam has surely lost its moxie. I think my helmet's foam is perfectly good. How would one know? Also, what about the new types of foam? Any recommendations on that?

4. Any general helmet advice? I want to do a 150 mile bike tour (2 days) in August this year. Ventillation is key. Any favorite sturdy helmets with good ventillation that you suggest? Consumer Reports recommends the Bell Citi, Slant, and Impulse. But the Giro Hex looks cool on me with its little pink lines and pink straps. Cool

Thanks!
-Sal

Possibly a State Soccer Title?
Posted by cjhsa on May, 06. :: 2 Comments
My daughter's JV team is 8-1-1 and has outscored their opponents 50-4 on the season. Their only loss came in their opener against a much larger school from a different division.

Here's the kicker. There are several frosh and sophomores currently playing on the varsity squad. I see a varsity state title in the next two years.

When we moved here, we expected our youngest daughter would do well in soccer having been trained professionally in California for several years. We never expected that our older daughter would become the first female to score a hat trick (three goals in one game) for the new school/program, and we certainly didn't expect to possibly be in contention for a state title.

Wow!
