How do you think an Australian woman would cope living in the Muslim world in Northern Morocco? Not like here I know. Would she be compelled to follow their ways?

The main thing is thatt has to happen if you want to lead a happy life.
Not that one cannot , but it is highly improbabale. A person has to adapt to his/her surroundings. I cannot wish to get drunk every day if i go to Saudi arabia. I will have to abide by their customs.
There is no need to totally mutate but soem adaptation is required.
Morocco was a french colony for quite a long time. If you live in a city it should be easy enough. And ah the language is important as well.
