Not sure if I'm on the right track... I don't think it has to do with physical things.

There's a saying in American English -- "If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, it's yours forever."

This seems similar -- a statement that you must share the things that come into your life in order to truly appreciate and enjoy them. Depending on what it is, you could share by teaching another person a skill you have learned, or by giving gifts of things you have made.

If you keep your talents to yourself and never let them see the light of day, they are lost in the sense that you might as well not have them.
