The next time you think you don't have enough space...

This is photo essay of Chinese residents in the oldest public housing in Hong Kong. There are exactly 100 apartments and each is only 100 square feet. I don't even see windows, so technically they are living in closets. I will never complain about my lack of storage space again...

100 feet 100 rooms

I don't know about funny, but maybe funny hopeful.. the human invention, need to organize. Really beautiful, in a way, in the face of clear constraint.

I had a similar thought - about how little we really need. Most of what we have is just "gravy".

Well... put me in perspective will ya

thats funny though.
The other day I was picturing whether or not I could afford this place by myself and though.. 'sheesh' this is a lot of space , I could always downsize.

Then I thought.. no way. This is MY home. and I 'deserve' all the space I can get.
I guess it is an american attitude this " i deserve all I can get' idea..

another thing I just realized is that american jail cells are about this size.
That is what we put our prisoners in to "punish" them..

That was my first thought - it's like a prison. Then I looked at the individual ways they decorated, what some had done to their 100 x 100 to personalize them... and some of them were smiling... I guess it's all what you get used to and expect. I shouldn't put my judgements on them. Maybe they're okay with it.

I could live like that if I had to.

Some of them are real packrats, then others have it scaled down to the bare necessities plus a few sentimental things.

Very interesting photo essay.

Did you see the serial killer one??

The one in all black, with the tiny cross on his shelf?

Wonder how many bodies HE has hidden in there

Yeah, I wondered about the gloves, too Smile Maybe he does dishes somewhere or maybe he's working for CSI Hong Kong getting latex prints off them... Or maybe he makes plaster casts of them for art exhibits...
