Are online identities like being an actor

Hey i was just wondering if anyone could share their views on whether

having an online identity that is different to reality is the same as acting

as a character.

doris4cecil - Welcome to A2K! :D

It will vary from one member to another. In my case, it is "what you see is what you get". I would not dream of using my anonymity to create a false persona.

I do think though, that some people DO use the internet to create a "character". I think that on A2K, the people here are perceptive enough, the vast majority of the time, to separate the phonies from the honest folk!

I also think that people who use the internet to fool people have a BIG problem.

I agree Phoenix. I'm happy we have so many savvy people here to identify the phonies.

Try as you might sometimes it's hard to part from those qualities or imperfections that make you who you are.

If you see any of those people, Phoenix, let me know.

I'll take care of them for you.

I am so much myself that I have my photo as an avatar.

Well, here's a confession.

I took my glasses off for the shot....

Gus- I don't care if you really are an old curmudgeon, a stunning young stud, a kindly old grandma, or a hot young babe. Your sense of humor shines through!

Yes Gus, you HAVE created a character. But it was not done with lies and falsehoods. You have never claimed to be anything. (That doesn't sound right, but you know what I mean!)

Oh, and thanks for the offer of help! :D

Speaking of, has anyone seen Slappy_Doo_Hoo lately? He took a new job, and disappeared.

Slappy did mention that his new job would provide very limited internet access, as he's on the road constantly.

Wasn't Slappy moving also? I would suppose that he has a lot to do right now. I'm sure that he will turn up, once things have settled down for him!

I heard Slappy had a sex-change operation and that once he's out of the hospital, he will become a regular participant again, only with a more feminine flair.

I am an actress. It's not at all like acting. I used to create different characters when I posted at Sunspot. What it is like is writing a script.

I created a character named Roxanne who was a dim-witted slightly demented born again Christian secretary who didn't know how to type. One particularly slow individual at Sunspot (now BS.com) named NOTAGUNNUT would get into vociferous debates with Roxanne, one classic thread asked the question "If Jesus walked the earth today, would he join the NRA?" People still talk abourt nut getting sucked in to that one. I even wrote a song titled as such and it became a cult internet classic at mp3.com.
