Forum tips and tricks

In this topic I will list little tips and tricks you can use on these forums.

Feel free to add your own and if it's a good one I'll edit this post and add to it.

Linking to individual posts

Above each post you will see the time the post was posted and the text "Post Subject:".

The 'post subject' text is a link to the actual post. With IE you can right-click the link and click "copy shortcut". When you paste the link it will look like this:

http://www.able2know.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=50#50

The "p=NUMBER" part is the post number. The "#NUMBER" makes the page scroll down to the particular post.

Hidden Text

A2K has recently turned on HTML for special characters. But we do not allow any HTML tags for security reasons. So if you frame text between < and > and turn HTML ON in your post it will be there but will not be displayed.

Man oh man. I'm glad I saw this. I literally thought I'd lost my mind. I did one of those < > with 'smile' in between and the whole thing vanished. Then when I did 'edit', the whole shebang was back.

Yep. There's a whole testing forum, LittleBitty, you might want to play around in there for a while, as those posts, once they're unanswered and some time passes (I forget how long, a few weeks) are just auto-deleted by the software.

And welcome to A2k. Smile

Hi,

I'm new to the forum. I tried adding an avatar by selecting Profile, selecting an avatar, then hitting submit button. I've tried several times but nothing comes up. There's a little white box with a red cross in it where the picture should be. How come? What did I do wrong?

Not sure this helps, but there was a time when I had to select the avatar's properties, and copy the entire properties code into the profile. It's been awhile, so I can't be too specific. Try the basic idea, and mess around with it.

Thanks mac11. I looked at the sites and attempted to submit a ticket to get help getting an avatar. I'm afraid I wasn't too successful Embarrassed

I guess I will be avatar-less Cool

The site is going through some changes and submitting a ticket doesn't seem to be working right now.
