MY EXCITING ENCOUNTER WITH A FRENCH PUSSY - MARVEILLEUX

Having just recovered my memory after a particularly harrowing injury of the penile variety, I now realise that I have a stock of photos to post, regarding my three week stint in France, and a story to tell involving among other things, a large saucisson, a Dutch woman and a shiny black French pussy that one found impossible not to lovingly stroke.

First off, a quick round up of what the trip was all about.

Three years ago, my (not so handsome as me) older brother and I bought a Farmhouse between us, with the intention of renovating it over a period of several years, and either flogging off part of it at an exhorbitant rip off price to some Dutch or rich German folk, or renting the spare spaces out as "Gites".

The property is near Charolles, which lies at the southern tip of the Burgundy region, and is famous for it's Charollais cattle, which make wonderful steak. Charolles is about 45 mins drive from Macon, and about two hours due west of Geneva.

The property consists of one bloody great big farmhouse, and across a courtyard/car park, a smaller house, requiring total renovation.

The big house has one end which is liveable (three bedrooms, two loos, a big kitchen, a massive vaulted living room, a shower and a bath). This residential section takes up almost half of the building's length, the rest being unaltered barn space.

BIG HOUSE.....

As you can see, the house also has an outside stone staircase going up to a reasonable sized "flat" (apartment) above. The flat has potential to be extended up into the high loft area, which would give at least two vaulted bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs, with a big living room and smallish kitchen downstairs.
Internal photos of all this stuff later......

LITTLE HOUSE......

We have already fitted windows and doors into the little house, have installed underfloor heating (electric) underneath a new concrete floor.
A small mezzanine was fitted into the living room, and the target for this holiday, was (among a great list of other things) to fit a floor above the beams in what will eventually be the kitchen, so that an upstairs bedroom and bathroom can be gained.
As you will eventually see...this ended up being quite a task.

The big house is at least 400 years old, probably older, but parts of the little house is rumoured to be at least 500 years old, and once served as a bakery to the (now ruined) castle, which is our next door neighbour. It still has the bread oven....which STILL works!

Little house......

and both houses pictured together, to give some idea of their proximity to one another.....(pictured from the road....little house nearest, big house behind)

More (hopefully) later....if not, I'll carry on with it tomorrow......

Thank you, Letty. By marking, do you mean the stone walls? This type of stone facia is everywhere, and mile upon mile of dry stone boundary walls all over the place.

Before any of this building work could go ahead, lots of clean up stuff was required. The garden had reverted to weeds....the car park had tumbleweed sprouting everywhere, and the building itself needed tarting up on the outside.
For instance....there is a large cellar underneath the main house, and here are the before and after shots of the stairs which needed a bit of a spruce up. This "little" job alone took me over four hours, using a wire brush to get all the moss off the granite steps.....

Before.......

Well, this is the yurt I am rebuilding in Wolf Hole Arizona, it has one room and no running water or electricity because i consider self-sufficiency a value of nobility and cultural refinement.

Staring at all the grout between the stones in the walls... does that have to be re-pointed a lot?

Good job on the steps, lord..

......it's the only time I've worn rubber gloves and not enjoyed myself, Osso.

The "grout" is cement (mortar) which seems to be predominantly pink in that area, as the local stuff seems to be made of Rose stone, which is abundant in various quarries. It seems to be as hard as nails, so I don't think we'll have too much of a problem.

Going to the "barn" end of the house...the intention (time and money permitting) is to convert the barns (four separate barns) into separate little terraced houses...well, that's the dream, anyway.

The "barn" end of the main house.....

...and standing inside one of the barns, looking up at the oak beams. There isn't a single nail in the whole thing, just pegs. To me, it looks like a bloody great viking ship that's been turned upside down....

.........and here is the view looking out over the fields to the front...

(just to the right, out of shot, is the castle...I'll try to find the pic...)

Oh yes......notice another "little" job being done? The whole car park was raked and cleard thoroughly, by my own fair hand. This was at the halfway stage...

oooooh I could turn those gardens into a rustic Marie-Antoinette's "Domaine" in a few days given a couple of strong young bucks with shovels and wheelbarrows. Want to barter a vacation for a garden m'lord?

I consider my little 80-year-old house to be old. Four HUNDRED or five HUNDRED years old...! The mind boggles.

Gorgeous, and can't wait to see more photos (both promised interior photos, and future "this is what things look like now" photos).

Is there any chance of YOU living there?

No design and crew offer here (not that I wouldn't like to); I think that is out of bounds for a2k. Besides, I assume you relegate that pleasure to yourselves.

Would love to stop by one day, at least in fantasy, with a hope of a snifter of Calvados. (Or is Calvados a no-no in Burgundy?)

Osso - Calvados in Burgundy! Shocked

Shame on you!

I'm sure they can dredge up a half decent drink there - given some notice!

Lookin' good, el!
